Checklist #8: Defining Your Publicity Goals
To help you stay focused and make best use of your time and money, answer the following questions before beginning your publicity campaign.
- What do you want to accomplish?
- Who do you want to reach?
- What is their income level?
- How do you want your event to be portrayed?
- What newspapers and magazines do they read? (Including shoppers)
- What newsletters do they read? (See Oxbridge Directory of Newsletters)
- What radio shows do they listen to?
- What controversial topics are they interested in?
- What geographic market are you targeting?
- What media are within that market?
- Which local media can help? (College newspapers, small radio stations)
- Which statewide media can help?
- Which national media? (Travel magazines, newspaper travel editors)
- What groups/businesses can help you? (Chambers, Dept. of Tourism, local businesses)
- Can I produce a TV program on the cable TV public access channel?
- What media do attendees read/listen to? Ask them at the event!
